Street Barista survival skill #3 – the illusion of awakeness

Making coffee in the open air is tiring work. But with a whole host of predators stalking Soho’s streets it is imperative never to drop one’s guard. During my travels in central India I saw farm workers with faces painted on the back of their heads to ward off tiger attacks. I have adapted these techniques using readily available materials – two milk bottle tops and a wet chalk marker. Sit yourself facing the till and sleep. The bug-eyed appearance will also intimidate street hustlers who will think you are high and dangerous.
